Moblie phone ringtones : Future prospects
Author: Alen Wilson
Ringtones are all about personalisation and have proved to be afashion statement. People may choose their own style and notcare about what is popular but they keep themselves updated withthe ring tone trend. Today with everyone wanting to have thelatest in ringtones, the market has grown at a pace faster thanexpected.
Ringtone sales are on the rise and have even overtaken CD sales. Many artists are making money from ringtones, charging up to $4for each ringtone. Ringtones sales have also overtaken legalInternet download services, such as Apple's iTunes, whichgenerates under $100 million a year worldwide.
Ringtones have appealed to people so much that they have nowbecome a fashion statement. Sound quality is also improving dayby day; latest handsets are supporting polyphonic ringtones andreal tones, which are nothing but actual music clips.
The success of these ringtones has created a huge opportunityfor mobile operators. It has been estimated that mobiledownloads could account for 20-30% of music sales by 2006.
The speed with which the ringtone sales took off surprised justpretty much everyone. The reason behind the immense popularityof ringtones is the easy download process involved. You simplyhave to send a text message and the ringtone will be sent to youwith charges automatically being added to your phone bill.
The popularity of ringtones among the young generation showsthat kids care about music in a very definite way. They'retaking the song they like and using it as a way of displayingtheir identity. Now the question is whether the ringtones saleswill continue growing at break-neck speed, or whether MP3-phonesthat offer consumers the ability to play full tracks will resultin their end. One thing we know for sure is that at the moment,an increasing number of people are using their mobile phones todownload ringtones and are paying a pretty heavy price for them.Through a combination of increased ringtone availibility anddesire to personalise one's mobile phone with one's favouriteringtones, the growth in the mobile music arena has flourished. There is currently a demand for musical ringtones, but it isbelieved that with new phones being able to play MP3-qualitymusic,there will be no need for this market. iTunes and MP3technology will prove to be far more efficient than purchasingringtones. The user friendly format of iTunes and MP3 will be soappealing to customers that the market will see the demise ofthe ringtone industry. The iTunes phone ultimately givesconsumers more choices and the power to personalise their phoneon a daily basis without additional costs associated withringtones. Finally, time will tell if ringtones will be singingso long or if two related digital music markets will emerge.

Mobile Phone Buying Guide
Author: Cassie
The mobile phone revolution looks to be unstoppable. The chunky
house bricks of the 1980s have been replaced with lightweight,
slim handsets incorporating the latest in communication
technology allied to a strong sense of fashion. Prices of
handsets range from nothing to several hundreds of pounds - a
range caused by the eagerness of the network owners to entice us
on to their expensively acquired airspace. There are two options
available when purchasing a mobile phone. These are a contract
deal, where you pay a line rental charge but can get inclusive
call minutes, or a pay-as-you-go mobile, where you simply
pay for the calls and no monthly line rental. It's important to
choose wisely here, because each method has its pros and cons.
What to look for mobile phone? Key Features and
Accessories!
More and more technologies are converging in phone handsets to
give the savvy user the chance to communicate with more than
just speech. Mobile phones that include digital cameras are
becoming the norm. The ability to take a picture and send it to
a similarly-equipped friend is an increasingly common
phenomenon. The long-promised third generation (3G) phones have
arrived and although take-up is not quite as quick as that
desired by major manufacturers, network coverage permitting,
full mobile internet access to reach your e-mail, video phone
calls, and video services like TV and sporting clips delivered
straight to you are now all possible. And some phones will now
take short video clips which can be sent via multimedia
messaging. Colour flip screens for viewing digital images are
also common and are a big benefit for the dedicated games
player. Also available are phones with built-in radios and/or
MP3 players for listening to music.
Key features:-
Multimedia messaging is used by camera phones to send
pictures, sound and text all in one message. The recipient needs
to have an MMS phone; otherwise they receive a text
asking them to access a website that will display your message.
Roaming allows you to use your phone abroad on other
networks. You will need to be authorized to use roaming by your
provider and not all of the services you have in your home
country may be available. Generally, text messaging is permitted
but voice calls may be restricted to the country you are in
unless you have full roaming.
The advantage is you only pay for services you actually use
(and there's no surprise bill at the end of the month). The
disadvantage is that call rates tend to be higher than contracts
and that your choice of handset may be restricted.
Accessories:-
Using Bluetooth technology to communicate with the
handset, a headset can be a convenient way of using the phone.
And while the debate on the long-term effects of heavy phone
usage continues a headset is a sensible option for people likely
to be on the phone all day.
Mobile phone theft is a problem and insurance premiums are
correspondingly high. In financial terms you probably only need
it if you have bought your handset separately rather than as
part of a contract.
Some mobiles can be plugged into a car kit to utilize the
car's battery power, a speaker and an aerial to give better
sound and reception. Other car kits have just a charger and a
hands-free kit.

Choosing the Right Mobile Phone
By Rocco Jones
Different people have differing needs for example a trades person may want a phone that's robust, simple and fuss free whereas a business man may look for style and advanced features.
Lets look at some of those options.
Phone size, weight and construction:
This is probably the first place to examine considering how you prefer to carry your handset. Do you want a phone that will fit in your pocket, purse or do you prefer to clip it to your belt or hang it from a neck chain? This is where phone size, weight and attaching accessories/options become important as you have to live with this everyday.
Phone construction is a consideration where some people may look for large fumble free buttons others may not. Chassis construction is important as some will look for flip or sliding front style phones for button protection and style reasons whereas a trades person may look for a flat chassis phone to eliminate mechanisms that can be suspect to damage under extreme use.
Display size and resolution:
Most color screened mobiles are capable of displaying 16 bit of colors (65,536 colors). And higher the better for clearer graphics. Font sizes should be looked at for suitability for you.
Phone Features:
Phones are coming jam packed with features and it's worth looking at what's available and get features that suit your needs. It's also worth checking that the features for the phone will be available on the network you choose to connect to.
Some of the popular phone features include
Email capability (check with network carrier for compatability)
Web browser (should be xhmtl compatible)
Media Capabilities (look for mp3, mp4, wma and AAC+ compatabilities for audio and video)
Camera (higher the megapixel the better, some will have zoom feature, flash)
Memory (If you will be using media capabilities, ie. Mp3 player or camera, look at memory size or expandable memory options via card)
Connectivity (some phones can connect to pc for synchronisation and use as a modem, can be via infared or cable)
Downloads (some phones will be able to download tones, themes and games. Check for polyphonic, real tone and java compatability)
That's a very brief look at some of the options available and there are many more options to consider. One of those is which network. The network you connect to will determine your coverage (reception) area and services. Some networks offer advanced services like video calling and fast data transfer for web browsing etc (3g networks, I Mode networks, GPRS, EDGE) although other older GSM networks may offer more coverage. Check with each operator and fit to your own needs.
